AN OSTROGOTHIC SILVER EAGLE-HEADED BUCKLE CIRCA 6TH CENTURY A.D. Each end of the kindly-shaped loop terminating in stylized animal heads, the eyes and each end with collar-set cabochon glass, scrolling the length, each side of the massive hooked tongue set with glass, both elements hinged to the rectangular plate, a projecting eagle-head opposite, the eye and each side of the plate set with cabochon glass, a large oval glass in the center, the surface with rows of scrolling and other geometric ornament, originally riveted to a leather belt, part of which is still preserved. Size: L 7 ¼” W 2 ¾” (L-18,5 sm. W- 7 sm.)
