Kirik and Oulitta. 18-19th century, Central Russia. Egg tempera gesso on wood panel. Two splints insert on the back (both missing) This mother and son pair of martyrs are frequently depicted. Ouellette (Iulitta) refused to renounce her faith before the magistrate of Tarsus and was forced to watch her son killed after he scratched the officialęs face. Then she was also martyred. Size: 10 3/4" X 12 1/2" (27 x 32 sm.)
